PROPERTIES

Flocculants play important roles in water purification and wastewater treatment for several industries such as textile, food, and papermaking. Flocculants have been extensively used in treating wastewater effluents with the aim of removing colloidal particles from the solutions and suspensions.

LignoAdvances flocculants are large water-soluble biopolymers, which possess both hydrophobic (water fearing) and hydrophilic (water loving) regions. With addition of water, the molecule can move and adjust itself to its surrounding.

Flocculation can be promoted via charge neutralization, bridging and hydrophobic/hydrophobic interaction. Therefore, we produced lignin-based flocculants with high bridging efficiency, and hydrophobic/hydrophobic interaction. The hydrophobic regions tend to adsorb onto surfaces that are likewise hydrophobic, while the hydrophilic regions will hold onto water molecules or possibly form hydrogen bonds with other surfaces such as proteins or starches.

Today, the effluents of textile, painting, paper and pulp, leather, and cosmetic industries contain significant amounts of natural and synthetic dyes. At LignoAdvances we design economical and eco-friendly flocculant/coagulant by functionalizing lignosulfonate.

Rheology modifier

Rheology modifiers, known as flow-control agents, improve or modify the viscosity of liquids to acquire the desired rheological properties.

We are generating broadly applicable, optimised design dispersants for the purpose of modifying the rheology of dispersed aqueous systems. They offer rheology control primarily in terms of viscosity reduction and prevention of gel formation.

Some of their properties are higher thermal stability, strong shear thinning, thixotropic qualities, and water solubility. Another important property of these new compounds is that they are biodegradable, and their production does not directly involve any chemicals other than biomass and water.
